Review

I rarely DNF a book, but this was one I seriously considered not finishing. However, I’m glad I stuck with it. In the beginning, the story has an incredibly slow pace, so slow I didn’t start to enjoy the book until the middle. I think it’s slow in order to accommodate for more world-building, but the world-building didn’t even happen much in the beginning. I didn’t learn there were two moons until I was already a third of the way through the book. The action scenes felt rushed. Now, I don’t need a blow by blow of what is happening, but drawing out the scenes, making them feel more intense would have been nice.

I hated the main character in the beginning. I always have a hard time when a character complains a lot about their situation. It could have been done on purpose by the authors, but I cannot stand it. The main character did get better as the book went on and his character arc was, overall, well done.

The last third of this book was the best. It became way more action packed and the general pacing picked up. Overall, this book wasn’t as great as I hoped, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Certainly a unique fae story with great slow burning romance. I will be looking out for the sequel of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fae stories and can stick with a book even through the slower parts.
