“We’re all monsters, Nadya, some of us just hide it better than others.”

– Emily A. Duncan, Wicked Saints

Overview

Nadehzda Lapteva, Nadya, is one of the last clerics able to commune with the gods in Kalyazin. She is the key to winning a holy war that was gone on for a century against the heretical Tranavia. When her monastery is breached by enemy forces, she is forced to flee. In the process, she must choose to help her enemy to accomplish her devout duty to the gods. Wary as she is, she is drawn to them and hopes she isn’t in over her head before it’s too late.

Wicked Saints Review

I was hooked from the first chapter and loved the author’s writing style. You really felt the emotions of the characters through the struggles they faced. I cannot wait to read the second book. This is a great read if you love magic, romance, fantasy, and a decent amount of fighting.

Ruthless Gods Review

I was so excited to start the second book in this trilogy. The first book was gritty and dark, but really immersive and I loved it. However, I found the second book to be slow, too dark, and hard to enjoy. There is a fine line between a book being too light and too heavy so I can appreciate the struggle. I just wish there were a few more high points to look forward to in this book. There was also a shift in the overall series plot in this book and I just didn’t enjoy the path it took.

Update: I took some time to think about this series after finishing the second book and decided to not finish the series. The first book was so strong, but the second really just made me dislike the characters. I felt that the whole plot was turned on its axis, but not in a good way.
