Overview:

The world has separated humans by the color of their blood, Red and Silver. 17-year-old Mare Barrow is an impoverished Red blood whose life is forever changed when she enters the service of the Silvers. Silvers rule her kingdom with magical powers while Reds are forced into servitude or are conscripted to the army to fight in a war. A war that has lasted a century. When it is revealed that Mare is more than just an average Red, she is forced to play the role of the long lost daughter of an elite Silver house. Against better judgment, she decides to join a resistance group. The group plots against the powerful Silvers and Mare is forced to make choices. Choices that go against her own heart and gut.

“Rise, red as the dawn.”

Review:

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely and had a hard time putting it down. Aveyard does a great job developing the characters as well as setting the scene. The plot twists were well executed and I found myself rooting for Mare. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy young adult fantasy!
